A Treasure Hunt!

A Call from a fellow Pirate
Recently, my friend, Barb phoned and asked me if I wanted to go treasure hunting with her and her mom the next day. Of course, I rearranged my schedule and agreed to join them because I love to go thrifting!

A Dangerous and frightening place
Do thrift stores scare you? They used to scare me. I heard stories from friends where they found great stuff at great prices but I did not seem to have the same positive experience. I was used to retail shopping with everything organized and displayed to sell. A large selection of sizes and styles. Lets face it, thrift stores can be confusing; some are just plain scary.

Notice the name of this thrift store?
Kyla came on our treasure hunt too!

"One Man's Trash...."
Since I started collecting and selling vintage, I discovered that thrift stores are a wonderful resource of castaway vintage treasures. I used to dread shopping in a thrift store - I felt like a "fish-out-of-water" - clueless and confused. But now, each time I enter one, I am filled with a sense of excitement and adventure! I love the anticipation of discovering "buried treasure!"

 Our Voyage:
We hit a lot of thrift stores in just a few hours! Barb always has a great route planned.

Are you a sucker for romance? I am!

Have you seen this wonderful video on You Tube?

You've got to watch it!

I wonder if she'll wear gloves on her wedding day? Many brides do, especially in the South.

I hope she does!  Gloves add a touch of formality to an occasion and weddings are one of a girl's few opportunities to really "dress it up"

I think that our culture has gotten too casual. People just don't dress up for events the way they used too. I've especially noticed this sad fact at church, weddings and funerals.

I sometimes wish we could return to the days when ladies wore hats and gloves.

What do you think ladies? Should she wear gloves on her wedding day?

Here are some of my favorite gloves. The advantage to wearing shorter gloves down the aisle is they are easier to remove for the ring exchange.

Something old, something new...

It's June, the month for weddings and, I love weddings! I also love vintage accessories. I think it's wonderful that two of my favorite things go together so well.

Are you in search of  "something old" to wear or carry on your wedding day? How about a lovely pair of beaded vintage gloves?

Or, a pair of milk glass earrings?

Many brides incorporate vintage jewelry into hair pieces like this lovely comb which was up-cycled from a vintage brooch:

I have even seen bridal bouquets created from vintage brooches!

How special is that?

Last, but not least -  you could carry a beautiful, beaded, vintage clutch.

Last year, I purchased a lovely sequin and beaded purse at a flea market. Both my youngest daughter, Kyla and her sweet friend, Felicia, fell in love with it. They each "reserved" it for their wedding day.

I have set it aside for you, Felicia - Hmm? something borrowed and something old at the same time! And will give it to Kyla at her bridal shower.

I love to collect pretty vintage things and offset the cost of this hobby by selling pretty vintage things on Etsy. My shop is called, Pink Rose Vintage and you can find some of the iems I post in my blog there.

I am delighted that many of my customers have been brides who purchase "something old" to wear or carry on their special day.

More about gloves in my next post:)
